James Dokray
By letters patent under the Great Seal of Ireland, dated at Drogheda, 23 Feb, 7EdIV [1468] the King granted for life to James Dockray, Esq., to be Constable of the King's castle at Cragfergus [Carrickfergus] for his good service to the King's father [i.e. Richard, Duke of York] and the King. Because the Castle was a garrison of war and surrounded by Irish and Scots, with no English aid within 60 miles, and because James maintained the force there at his own expense, he was granted 40 Marks from the lordship of Ardmulghan, and the customs and cokets in the ports and franchises of Ardeglasse and Cragfergus.
