Stephen Docwra, baptised 1834 Stepney St Dunstan, parents Stephen and Ann Docwra. I cannot find the younger Stephen in the 1861 or the 1881 Census transcripts, nor have I found marriage or a death for him as yet. If anyone happens across him. please let me know. Smile

For months, nay years!, I have been trying to establish where the elder Stephen DOCWRA came from. He appears in London where he married Ann GLANVILLE at Shoreditch St Leonards in 1828, but I have never been able to find a birth for him there.

He didn't show up on the 1881 Census, so I went searching the 1861 census for Camberwell and found him, wife Ann, and a daughter we didn't know existed, also called Ann. His three earlier children were all baptised at Stepney St Dunstan, so the family appears to have moved across the river between child #3 and child #4.

The greatest delight was finding his place of birth listed as Bassingbourn, Cambs, as I have long-suspected that this was where he came from but didn't have the evidence to support the belief. His age in the 1861 census is given as 60, which gives me a year of birth of 1801+/- . The next step is to find his birth in Bassingbourn... watch this space!
